I am incredibly grateful for the Pashby Family awarding me the Gloria Pashby Scholarship for the 2016-2017 school year. This award helped make my education at St. Lawrence more attainable and afforded me numerous educational opportunities both at St. Lawrence and beyond St. Lawrence during my years at Bellarmine College Preparatory. When I was awarded this scholarship, I felt encouraged to continue working hard and striving for academic excellence in the rest of my educational career. Recieving the Gloria Pashby Scholarship not only benefited my family financially, but it also gave me the confidence and courage to be proud of my work. All my life my parents have worked very hard to provide me with a good education, a roof over my head, and clothes on my back. And I wanted to repay them for everything they have done for me. Receiving this award granted me a special opportunity to show my parents how thankful I am for them. In addition, this scholarship taught me to take pride in everything I do. It taught me that with hard work and dedication you can accomplish anything you put your mind to.

I was an incoming 6th grader when I was awarded the Gloria Pashby Scholarship. I remember feeling extremely proud of my essay, being that my work was chosen out of dozens of submissions, some coming from students two years older than me. The scholarship helped instill a sense of confidence in my writing. I went on to work in Journalism in middle school, excel in AP English classes in high school, and continue to write into my college years. I am forever grateful for both the scholarship fund and the internal conviction the Gloria Pashby Scholarship granted me and I hope future winners will feel as proud of themselves and their work as I did the day I won in 5th grade.
